Have a very Merry Birthday Miss Gladys Knight!
Since we're on the subject of birthdays! Gladys Knight was born today on May 28 in 1944. Originally known as the 'Empress of Soul', Gladys is an R&B/soul singer-songwriter, humanitarian, and author. Folks are more familiar with Gladys' hits she sang during the 1960s and 1970s. Signed to Motown, her group Gladys Knight & the Pips, which included her brother and her cousins.
In 1961, the first single "Every Beat of My Heart" for the group, became a #1 R&B hit and followed suite with a 6 pop hits including the Grammy-winning "Midnight Train to Georgia" which soared to #1 all over the world.
