Pss kiddas, the soon to be released, French period romance film, "The Princess of Montpensier" looks like quite the spectacle. Directed by Bertrand Tavernier, the film is based on a tale by "Madame de La Fayette". The film stars model turned actress Mélanie Thierry in the leading role, alongside an amazing co-starring cast with Gaspard Ulliel, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, Lambert Wilson and Raphaël Personnaz.
Synopsis...
"Marie de Mezieres (Melanie Thierry), a beautiful young aristocrat finds herself married to a young prince (Gregoire Leprince-Ringuet), she does not love, haunted by a rakish suitor (Ulliel) from her childhood, and advised by an aging nobleman (Lambert Wilson), harboring his own forbidden desire for her. Marie must struggle to stay alive in the intrigue of this corrupt political and romantic web of duty, passion, religion and war."
In other words, the story takes place in the French aristocracy during the 'Wars of Religion', focusing on a young lady who is forced into marriage while passionately in love with another man. On an interesting side note: "The Princess of Montpensier" premiered May 16, 2010 at the Cannes Film Festival, with StudioCanal releasing it in 384 French cinemas on November 3, 2010. Distribution rights for the US was acquired by IFC Films, who will release the film April 1, 2011."
