Have A Very Merry Birthday Shirley Temple!
We may be 2 days late but that's no reason why not to celebrate Shirley Temple's birthday! Born, Shirley Jane Temple on April 23, 1928. She was thee original American child actress.
I may have grown-up listening to most of her christmas tunes but little Shirley began her screen career in 1932 at the age of three. In 1934, she skyrocketed to superstardom in 'Bright Eyes', a film designed specifically showcase her talents.
She received a special Academy Award in February 1935. Her unique trademark licensed every kind of merch that capitalized on her wholesome image including dolls and clothing. As Temple grew up she attended high school and left the movie industry for awhile. She later appeared in a few films as a teenager, but ultimately retired completely from the silver screen in 1950 at the age of twenty-one. She will go down in cinema history as "the top box-office draw with a staggering four years in a row track dating from 1935–1938".
